Thank you for supporting the 2018 WindReach Farm Annual Fundraiser

December 2018

Dear Friends,

WindReach Farm will be celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2019. Thank you for all you have done over the years to help us make the world a better place for those with special needs of all ages and abilities. WindReach Farm has evolved over the past 30 years but the groundwork of what we do here was laid many years ago by our Founder, Sandy Mitchell. Sadly, Sandy passed away on May 5th of this year. He has left a legacy like no other, a dedication amongst all our staff, volunteers and participants, to inspire, empower and change lives.

Sandy realized at an early age that he was a little different. Born in 1944 with cerebral palsy, his early development was primarily recognized by what he was NOT allowed to do. Although frustrating, this proved to be the catalyst that motivated him to want to “change the world” for people who had different abilities. In order to do this, he recognized he had to start by changing his own world. And change it he did.

As a young boy, Sandy constantly pushed the boundaries. “Let me do it” were Sandy’s most frequentlyspoken words throughout his entire  life. This resulted in Sandy becoming an avid sailor, downhill skier and of course a three-time equestrian Paralympian. While he was changing his life, he wanted to change the lives of others. He knew that the opportunity to do ordinary activities can be an extraordinary gift and WindReach Farm could be a way to provide that gift to others.

Today, WindReach Farm works with over 250 schools and agencies as well as hundreds of individuals and families. These relationships are one of the most valuable assets and outcomes that are a true measure of our success in establishing the trust needed to serve the people who are too often left behind.

While this was Sandy’s vision, he realized early he could not do it alone. From the very beginning, the success of WindReach Farm to improve the quality of life for thousands of individuals has depended on your support. This holds true today. The world has changed for thousands of people who depend on WindReach Farm’s “let me do it” philosophy. Consider WindReach Farm in your holiday giving this year. With your generous gift, we will keep changing the world for people with different abilities Your gift supports all the programs and services provided by WindReach Farm.

My family has been a friend of WindReach Farm for over 15 years. The impact that WindReach has had on us is immeasurable. Because of Sandy’s vision, my daughter Nicole, has had the opportunity to ride some amazing horses and meet some incredible people. Riding gives her a feeling of independence, self-worth and pride every time she gets on a horse. The self-confidence and smile seem to radiate off of her and the joy it gives her is contagious to everyone around her. WindReach has given Nicole a chance to have control for that small period of time while riding in a life where very little control has been given to her due to her seizures. With high fives all around to the volunteers and a massive hug and kiss to Nicole’s horse Alex, we always leave WindReach with a smile.

Your support this year is even more critical as we embark on the next 30 years of inspiring, empowering and changing lives. Please join me in supporting WindReach Farm and ensuring we are here for the next 30 years.

Warmest regards this holiday season.
